What Would You Do If You Won/inherited/found A Million Dollars?

And what kind of person are you (lib, con, mod), and what political party do you generally identify yourself with? And if you care to add, what’s your age?
Just curious what other people would do.
For example, I’m a conservative Republican in my mid-20s. I think I would donate a small portion to charity, then use most of the rest of it to buy real estate. There are a lot of houses and multi-family units out there right now at bargain prices, and interest rates are amazingly low. My husband and I are saving as much as we can right now so we can buy another property – our only real problem right now is just trying to get together a 20% down payment, but with a big chunk of money like that, the down payment would no longer be a problem.
So how about you?

Very Smart girl.We have done this too and its brings us a nice income each month for retirement. But if I found a million I would 1)donate some to St Jude’s hosp and then maybe take a nice trip with my husband and the rest I would also invest in real estate as it has done so well for us.

Buy gold.

I would use the money to fund a huge militia to take down the government and give it back to the people and take back this country from Barack Obama.

I actually find this question kind of sad to be quite honest with you. I think it reveals the very problem in our country that materialism and pursuit of more material goods than you possibly need has taken over from true happiness that comes from within not from outside of oneself collecting expensive things. Tell you what, if I had a million dollars, I’d set aside just enough for me to live off along with my savings and then give it away to those who are raising kids and really need it. The pursuit of materialism only leads to more unhappiness. The pursuit of inner desires that are more connected to being human (the arts, music, theater, nature and being connected to a community) as opposed to just being consumers, is what makes life worth living. Being a consumer doesn’t make you a very interesting person, nor does it make someone more ‘rich’ in real terms. I’ve found the more wealth someone has, the more shallow they are. I’ve met alot of very very wealthy people in my day and alot of trust fund kids and I can tell you they are all pretty shallow and boring. Do yourself a favor, instead of buying more real estate, quit your jobs, live frugaly and find an art form or life style that is more creative and interesting. There’s more to life than the pursuit of money.

If I won or inherited it, the government would steal half.
With my remaining half, 10% would go to charity. After paying off my debts, I would move to the country (I currently live in a large city) and buy property to rent to others. Some of the money would go into a Roth account, some in bonds and a small amount would go into stocks. I’d want to be well-rounded. I’d probably keep working in my field even tough I’d love to start a plant nursery. 500k isn’t a huge chunk of money if you think about it.
